The Human DNA of “Nomadic Longing”…

Post our lunch today my Mom, my Dad, my sister, and I started discussing what should be bought on the occasion of Dhanteras. Dhanteras is the first day that marks the festival of Diwali and as a custom every household purchases something.

Little did we realize that the topic shifted from “Dhanteras Special Purchase” to “No travel in 2020” and then to “Family trip plan in 2021”.

I’m no good at making an itinerary but I’ve been blessed with good people around me as both family and friends. I lean on them to plan the perfect getaway and find the best deals for our vacation. Honestly, I’ve tried doing it a few times. However, I get bored really quickly and leave it halfway. It’s not that I suck at it or can’t do it. But I just don’t like doing it. There are a few who love it. My elder sister falls in that bucket. The only contribution I feel every time is to help decide on the location.

Okay, so coming back to our discussion, while I suggested Goa (I’m missing it so much), my elder sister was hell-bent to make us choose the mountains. My family chose mountains over beaches. Finally, Spiti Valley got confirmed. I too was okay as Spiti Valley was on my list for 2020. Mom was in for any plan as long as she was getting a break from the regular household chores.

The energy in the room was very high with all of us exploring different websites to get an estimated budget and a rough itinerary. However, the discussion stopped all of a sudden and the energy in the room fell down to zero. Maybe we all realized that the times are uncertain and planning for anything beyond the next few weeks would be wishful thinking.

Nonetheless, there was a very clear takeaway for me that no matter how locked humans are, the DNA of a nomad does take over every now and then which pushes us to think beyond the 4 walls of our home and explore the unseen. No matter how long the pandemic lasts, I am certain that a few months/years of hardships will not overshadow our connection with our nomadic ancestors.

Till then, Zoom On!!

PS: Keep Smiling!!
