Targets are the enemy of habits,

Don’t set targets,

Set Habits! — LinkedIn “gyaan

Nicely put. The above lines are quite a treat for those who want to make new habits (hey, don’t misinterpret. I strictly mean good ones :P).Habits help us align in our present to chase our better selves throughout our life.

TBH, I suck when it comes to building new habits. Well, of course, because it requires discipline.

After posting 22 articles in a row, now I am credible to comment on the ever-popular “21 days habit challenge” and whether it works or not. I heard about the 21 days habit 5 years ago and I’ve tried it time and again whenever I was not able to give new habits a space in my life but wanted to.

Does it really work?? — Fair Question

The first step to building a behavior in your life as most know is “To Start”.

The next step is “To continue”- a phase during which most of us give up.

In my opinion, 21 days doesn’t really build something in you. Then, how exactly it helps: it conditions your brain. The 21-day streak pushes you to achieve it, do that activity daily, but consciously.

The first 10–12 days are difficult. The next 10 days set the pace.

Each passing day keeps you motivated as you move one level up the ladder.

Post 21 days your brain gets a fair share of conditioning that this is something you are planning to do consistently.

Well, post 21 days, don’t expect “no efforts”. Bummer!

What I mean is, that “the activity” doesn’t get fed in your subconscious mind. To be able to achieve that, it takes more than 21 days, heartbreaking, but true (since when did maintaining discipline become so easy, you wish ;P).

I used to write for pleasure earlier. Writing daily has always been a challenge for me. It even is now. But, now, I know that it can be done. That’s quite an achievement in itself.

To conclude, a 21-day challenge helps you to know that you can pursue the habit you have been trying to aim for.

Isn’t that great??

P.S~ Keep Smiling!!
